The NucleoCounter SP-100 is the 'gold standard' for measurement of sperm concentrtion i raw (neat) ejaculates or in extended semen. A fluorescent dye is used to automatically label the DNA of the sperm during cassette loading. The unit identifies and counts the sperm by identifying the fluorescent DNA. In addition to counting, a viability test of the sperm head membrane can also be performed. Each test takes less than a minute. Accuracy and repeatability are similar to results obtained using flow cytometry.
